Newbiggin couple set up scone mail order service
A Cafe-owning couple who have found fame because of the huge number of different scones they make are branching out - by launching a home delivery service all over the UK.
Batches of mail order scones will soon be winging their way to enthusiasts as far afield as London and Cumbria from Jackie and Colin Nevin's bakery and cafe in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

People are now able to order their favourite delicacies via a special website - www.sconemad.co.uk - and have them delivered to their doorstep by the following day.
Jackie and Colin will make the required scones to order and use a courier service to send them off to their destinations. They say about 200 scones a week should be heading off to take their place on teatime tables all over the country.
The mail order move follows the growing popularity of the amazing 99 different varieties of scone which Jackie, 54, has made since she and Colin opened their Nibbles cafe and sandwich shop in the seaside village more than two years ago.
Grandmother-of-seven Jackie started off by just baking the traditional fruit, cheese and cherry scones for her customers - but things took off after she decided to up the different varieties to 10, and then kept going.
Her latest creations include cranberry and orange, jungle fruit, strawberry and vanilla, beef and ale, chicken, stuffing and sprouts and bacon, egg and black pudding .
Yesterday she said: "We hope the internet mail order service will really take off, and we already have interest from people in London, Manchester and Cumbria who have visited the shop and tasted the scones. Somewhere along the line we hope to be able to deliver to Europe if required, but we want to start on a small scale and take it from there."
Colin, 57, said: "With all the publicity we have had people contact us from all over Britain, and they are waiting for us to do mail order so that we can send them scones. We did a survey, drew up a business plan and people will be able to order via the website.
"We will be able to deliver either the same day or the next day all over the UK and Ireland. It is all down to the success of the scones."
