Lifeboat Helm Geoff Leslie had just returned home from hospital with partner Sharon and their newborn daughter - when he was called out to an emergency rescue.

The couple had just got back with new arrival Erin Jean when Geoff received a call that a yacht had run aground on sea defences at Cambois Bay, south of Newbiggin.

The call for assistance was made just before 8pm on Saturday following a distress call to Humber coastguard. The stricken vessel was a 16ft yacht with two people on board which had come ashore on the beach at Sandy Bay Caravan Park.
